In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. No Eric, I'm not here trying to lynch you, just trying to level the playing field a bit. Our forums are hardly church lady (although now I'm going to have to watch that SNL skit, thanks!), but we don't like it when folks abuse other members through them.

I'm not here to string you up or say "hey, you suck." But if you're going to come here & say some pretty hurtful things about one of our guys, I'm going to put all the cards out on the table. I'm not about promoting ill-will towards anyone, but I'm not going to let a very valued member of our staff get trashed when he doesn't deserve it, either.

You know what else Eric? I'll even Paypal you $20 to cover the gas you used driving up here a second time, regardless of the fact that the snake was sexed correctly the first time around. Putting myself in your shoes, yeah, I'd be pretty peeved about having to make a second, unexpected trip somewhere I'd already been once in a day regardless of circumstances. I'm willing to bet that you have better time to spend with your kids on a day off than just sitting around in the car. If you want it, send me an e-mail address for your Paypal account...have some pizza & ice cream with your kids & enjoy spending time with them. Family is important.

Now THAT shows true class. Way to go K.

No one has to look that far back. This current quote from you shows disrespect for the forums you were allowed to participate in, and a lack of character in dealing with the current incident.

When you first posted your facts, I could not understand why people did not take the time to deal with your concerns, and I felt bad for you. Now that Kara has posted, I understand why they would hesitate to deal with you.

Kara/Kevin,

Ok I only have one question.

I understand you have 2 different businesses, and Andy works for the Nerd side of it.

But what are your feelings about any of your employees getting involved with the other business. Like answering the phones or helping the customers while walking through the store?

The reason I ask, I own a company that makes armor for re-enactment groups. At the same time I am a Elected President of one of these groups. All my employees belong to several of these groups, but we have a very strict rule about mixing the two companies. Yes the re-enactment group has over 1200 members and is a fully incorp'd 501c3 organization. while my personal company in a LLC, and has 12 employees. Both Run basically out of the same location, but my employees of the LLC know better then to take calls or answer questions for the Inc. and vis versa.

I am only asking this as one business owner to another as this came up earlier. See, I have never purchased from your company as of yet. I was working on finishing projects and actually had your company down as one of my spring wishlist. Now, putting aside this issue, if I were to call and place a order this next spring, will whoever I talk to be held accountable or any and all deals made. (this is pointed as a business ethic question, not towards the employees).

Thanks for your time.

As is all too often the case on the BOI, you are your own worst enemy, Eric. Your need to be snide and confrontational with anyone that does not completely agree with you is just making you look like an ass and someone to avoid doing business with in the future.

No one is perfect and unfortunate situations pop up from time to time. It is how we conduct ourselves and handle those unfortunate situations that define us as people.

There were obviously some mistakes made on both sides of this, but nothing that would not have easily been corrected with 5 minutes of polite conversation and a little common courtesy.

okay point taken
i will sit and take my lumps as they come with no further comments
if that is what it takes unless someone has a valid question
my attempts to be funny evidently were taken as bad taste and sarcasm
ill just be in the corner wearing my cap
Eric

Can't we all just get along? I mean really.. the meat is tenderized, time to eat and move on... :deadhorse

Then again.... like i said.... car accident... what will happen next..

John,

As a general rule, the only time NERD employees help out downstairs is when things get bogged down – i.e. the phones are tied up or “all of our associates are assisting other customers.” If they step in at that point, it’s mainly to give the customer attention until they can be directed to the right person or a message can be taken so that the appropriate employee can contact that customer at a later time…we don’t like to leave folks hanging, especially when they’ve come into the store. If it’s something simple like bagging crickets or picking out feeder rodents, then those duties are carried out as needed. Also keep in mind that there aren’t roving bands of random NERD employees roaming through the retail store at any given time…we have a lean crew upstairs and of those folks, Andy & one other person may occasionally be downstairs when there’s a phone ringing off the hook or a customer that needs immediate attention.

Zoo Creatures employees may occasionally give tours of the facility upstairs, but most of our folks downstairs specialize in their particular departments (bird/fish/small animal/reptile, etc), and have their plates full with duties at the store. They are not involved with the husbandry or business aspects of NERD, and all of them are pros at fielding calls & directing them upstairs when necessary.

If you do decide to give us a call next spring, call NERD directly. Since our retail store is exactly that - a public retail shop - they will end up transferring you upstairs where you'd deal with Andy, BW, Kevin or myself (depending on what species you're looking for). Each of us deals with customers, each of us is responsible for our specific transactions with said customers.

Hope this helps...

Hey one good turn deserves another – you’ve facilitated a 25 page monstrosity because a simple missexed snake and emotions. You drew out a simple matter and got the public scrutiny that comes with it - don’t get shy now.

You have gone above and beyond Kara and just from this transaction I wouldn't hesitate to do business with you.

PS
I happen to enjoy your forums.

While I am of the opinion that Kara, Kevin, and all the other associates of NERD are good people with a good business reputation, I have witnessed several times in the past what happens when "lowly peasants dare to challenge the throne" so to speak. There is definitely a clique (or bandwagon or whatever nomenclature you want to use) of NERD fans out there who will go for the jugular of anyone who even thinks of questioning any action that their idols make. Is that a bad thing? Yes and no. Loyal customers are awesome and a great thing to have as a business.....they can also shoot you in the foot sometimes with their enthusiasm lol.

I've been on the receiving end of a NERD-loving mob at least once in the past, and I can assure you that no matter the logic or approach, it compares to trying to build a house out of wet spaghetti.

I can also understand the confusion about the whole Zoo Creatures/NERD relationship.....it doesn't make much sense to me that 2 companies who share the same owner and building are "totally seperate entities"....maybe its just me lol.

It is just you. There are many legal, tax, estate planning, and other financial/bookkeeping reasons that one might choose to do things this way. Many times the separate entities are even less separate than these in terms of how they appear to their customers. Sometimes they are more obvious. Either way, the potential reasons are numerous.

How about a little common sense here. This was a simple mistake in sexing (or the assumption that is was), a few wasted hours in somebody's busy day...it happens...it is not the end of anybody's world.

You did a trade for a snake you needed to be a specific gender. You choose to not have the snake sexed in front of you, in the store before transporting it home. You were likely quite busy that day. As a parent of four I understand this but I know it's my choice if I combine a snake purchase with a number of other family responsibilities. That's my choice and my timeline, not a retail stores issue if I'm in a hurry or distracted somewhat.

You were not happy with how an employee handled this trade. Fair enough. You've every right to be unhappy if you want to be. Calling someone "shady" however is taking a big stick to a pretty small puppy though. This is a company with a very clear chain of command, a clearly published phone number and owners that are available to you. Did you make any attempt to contact those that are responsible for their employees and calmly lay out the facts, express your concern about their employee and have this dealt with in a professional manner? Apparently your first reaction is to run to the BOI and call someone "shady" which in this small world leaves an awfully bad aftertaste, reflecting on the person and the company they represent.

In the end for me it's about responses. I see one person becoming very mean spirited and petty in response to a number of posts. I see another person responding in a professional manner and attempting to resolve this situation or at least bring it back to a common sense level where it always should have been. It also seems there's a whole back story here that is probably affecting this situation and how it's being presented by the OP.

Before you snap back at me, please note I've no horse in this race. This is in fact my first post on the BOI. I'm a nobody in this breeder world, just a hobbyist really and a hopeful breeder but I do read and I do watch how people react when push comes to shove. I'm nobodys cheerleader or groupie or really care who posts on what forum or gets booted for whatever reason. I do care however about people that walk a fine line of abusing anyone's professional reputation just because they got their knickers in a knot over a transaction that went slightly off. A lot of newcomers use the BOI and it's a very powerful tool that aught to be respected and used appropriately.

Perhaps next time instead of going this overboard publically, a simple adult and professional conversation could take place. A customer lets a business owner know that an employee of said business didn't do what the customer expected, they discuss it and it gets resolved to everyone's satisfaction. Gee what a novel concept!

Seems Kara/NERD is quite willing to work with you, they just aren't willing to be walked on publically and allow one of their employees to be called down and reputations smacked around on a public board. If you've made yourself unwelcome on their boards and in their retail store then so be it, spend your money elsewhere, but using the BOI in this manner seems a bit much to me.

This may have been your first BOI post.,,.but a very good one it was. It's nice to see some good old fashioned common sense. ;)
