In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Spruce Nubble Farm

I really hope Ms. Sample comes on here and posts something sup[porting her accusations against Spruce Nubble Farm if indeed there was some wrong committed by them.
If she does not then nothing she has posted means anything.

I'm with you John, heck how do we know that either of them are who they say they are.. If she or he or it doesn't come up with some proof I'm all for deleting both their post. Randy

Oh, and I am Edith's son...so if there are similarities...it's 'cause we're related. I don't feel I have to explain anything to any of you and if anything, this site is nothing but a fraud, if it refuses to accept truth about breeders/dealers.
OK Sample it's Simple, you lied about who and where you are so why would any one give any validity to anything else you've posted? Yep you guessed it, we have no reason to believe anything you've said here. Now you've gotten yourself suspended, that has to be close to the record for joining and then getting the boot .... Try reading the rules so if you manage to come up with the cash to pay your fine you might last longer..

This forum can be a good tool for prospective buyers and sellers but only if you use it as it was intended..Randy

Well in all fairness I did do a phone number look up for Ms. Sample at the address on the invoice she posted and found a phone number is listed for Edith Sample at that same address. That phone number and the city listed is the same as the one on the ACR link to Ms Sample & Travis Sample’s information with ACR posted by Ms. Peterson. So I am fairly sure that they exist and are who they say.

The real question for me is why Ms. Sample would post a negative comment and not be willing to provide any supporting information beyond the fact that she did make a purchase.
Perhaps, (just total supposition here) she/they were in over their heads when they made their purchase and poor husbandry knowledge lead to major health problems fairly quickly. I don’t keep GTPs but I know they are not as forgiving of mistakes as Corn Snakes.

She charges that

Spruce Nubble Farm sent me two sick GTPs. One died.
Whoa!!!!!
Something I just caught;
the invoice shows only one snake being purchased!!!!!!
The invoice, which I have saved to file in case it is removed from the thread somehow, shows only the purchase of #TI06J29 / 2006 Jayapura Female at a cost of $715.
Ms. Sample claims two snakes??????

This whole thing is smelling more like fish every time I look it over.

At this point, I am walking away from this whole deal. You may purchase from whomever you wish. The two sick snakes were purchased at different times. The invoice was for the dead one. DrJ is my son, not me. He was enraged at Spruce Nubble for scamming me.

Feel free to delete all of my posts. Feel free to delete this thread.
Good bye!
Edith

Edith, if you truly purchased sickdying snakes from this guy....why not just post the info? People need to know not to support this guy, if what you say is true.

And if you got one snake from them that was already sick, why on earth would you purchase from them again?

Edith ...

I have now been contacted by Ross at Spruce Nubble Farm, who threatened to sue me if I did not retract all of my statements, so:

I, Edith Sample, hereby retract ALL of my statements and posts that I have ever posted here on Faunaclassifieds. Unfortunately for you, Edith, what you have posted here will not be deleted, despite your retraction. You said it, it's here to stay.
You have already avoided posting any emails or photos or other "evidence" to back your original claims, and now you claim you have been threatened with a lawsuit? Where is the evidence to back this latest claim?
Remember, your posts WILL NOT be deleted. You ARE accountable for your statements, despite your latest claim to the contrary, so if you have proof of your original claims and of the threat of a lawsuit, now would be the time to post anything you have to back your allegations.
Unless you have something to back ALL of your statements, you appear to be just another back-peddling liar trying to get herself out of a mess she created ... for whatever reasons.

Frankly, I would never retract statements of TRUTH if I could back my claims, as you have indicated you can do, even if threatened with a lawsuit. If you are right, you are right. The truly "wronged" and innocent do not back-peddle, they do not retract, they do not back down.

I contacted Ross about this thread and just received an email from him . He said that Amy will respond here as soon as she can(Amy is his wife and partner in the Business)

Hey All,

I may not be able to offer much info about this exact transaction but I have had some dealing with Ross on my own. I do not believe this person is telling the truth about her transaction but I do believe Ross probably reacted agressive and disparigingly to her when she complained.

Ross and I became known to each other through the Maine Herp Society, which I was a significant member in until I moved to Florida in 01. Although I still continue to be an active member.

Ross did quite well with an internet company and came to Maine and started a nice farm with some varied stock; horses, chinchillas, gardens, and green trees. At first he came off as a very knowledgable and well spoken individual with a huge amount to offer anyone willing to listen. And he seemed to keep awesome records. He was very interested in getting Maine's quirky "legal list" widened to fit the width of the common herp market that is available today.

Everything looked like he was going to be a powerhouse for the group, an a great peer for me to know.

However, once I got know Ross, and he became more active in the group he began throughing out statements similiar to: He was the only licensed breeder in Maine, he was the only full time breeder in Maine, he was the most sophisticated in Maine, etc etc. This got under my hide becuase I consider myself a good, knowledgeable breeder, I consider Doug Kranich, Jason Patterson, Donny Herring all fanatastic/knowledgeale breeders in the species that they keep, and in the last 4-5 years since I left Maine a whole host of keepers have turned breeders. They Ross started insulting sellers like JNJ saying that sellers were bad, and people should only buy from breeders.

I asked Ross for pics of his gtps breeding-he sent me pics of two sitting next to each other on a perch-tails completely seperate. This is when I started some digging and found that he is buying animals from Cameron and reselling them.

Everything then seemed to quiet down for awhile and Ross has continued to fight Maine with his legal team and is making some headway-which I do have to give him praise for.

However, then one of my friends decided to sell an odd carpet, Ross seemed interested and I help mediate the deal and was being used as the shipper since I am delta certified. Before the deal even got done, Ross started complaining that we had not provided him with an airway bill number prior to shipping day(I get my airbills at the delta cargo and fill them out on ship day). This became such an issue between my friend and Ross that I had to stop doing my dayjob, and call Ross directly to get this smoothed out. Then once the snake arrived he started saying it had baytril scars. I had not seen the snake in months, I didn't bag it, so I didn't know. This again became such an issue I had to get involved.

As many of you who know me personally I am not one to back down and stood my ground with Ross.
1. He threated to sue, still I have no subpeonas.
2. He disparaged me about not being a Mainer since I moved to Florida-well I was born there and didn't leave until I was 22. Ross isn't even from Maine.
3. Told me I should stay out of business that was about Maine-my entire family lives there and I will inherit a significant amount of property in Maine. I have plans to retire there so I do care about what happens to the reptile industy in Maine.
4. Told me I was not a business becuase I had a day job- as he called it a "lab tech" to demean my job-I actually am titled a scientist. Also his main money maker was the website he sold, plus his horses are 10x more that his green trees. So in his definition he is actually internet guy turned farmer who had snakes not a snake breeder. Plus he resells Cam's snakes.
5. Made disparaging comments about Florida not being part of the U.S. becuase of the number of minority people that have moved here. It could have definately been taken as a racist remark, by some.
6. Made several comments trying to say that my friend and I must not know how to take care of snakes. Well, ask some wholesalers who I am and who he is and I think that answers that. As a hobbyist I had at one time a three year wait on some of my boas.
7. Made fun of my typing, and wording saying that I must not be too smart. Well, I recieved my bachelors degree in animal science-not english, or computer science. Guess, i'm dumb becuase my typing is not up to his standards.
8. Has this one year guarantee but if you read it you will never ever be able to get a refund on an animal.

All this has driven me to the opinion that I could care less if he gets killed painfully tomorrrow. I hope I never speak to him again.

Again I don't think the original poster is telling the whole truth, but Ross is not someone that I would consider a victim. He keeps up appearences well, and is probably god to some, but if you question him, or disagree with him you let the monster out of the cage, he will verbally come for you.

thanks
ben

Mr. Cole,
Thank you for giving us a little better picture of Mr. Lasley. I doubt that many of us believed that Ms. Samples story was 100% off either way and most wish she would have had the intestinal fortitude or intelligence to provide us with all of her information.
Based on what you have said I might even believe she received the hollow threat of a law suit but was not knowledgeable enough to understand how empty the threat really was.
Sadly, to me, Spruce Nubble Farm (Mr. Ross Lasley), Edith Sample and her son Travis Sample all came off looking questionable in this thread even before your post. Your info has only reinforced my belief that there indeed was something shady with Spruce Nubble Farm even though Ms. Stubble probably was not squeaky clean in the deal either.

I have not written this thread off yet and hope Edith returns and provides the additional information requested. I understand anything she presents at this point will be scrutinized due to her previous posts but still think it would be valuable information to make public. Based on previous interactions with Ross on another forum, I believe Ben’s post paints a very accurate picture.

I would be very surprised if Rich doesn’t receive a lawsuit threat to remove this thread, or parts of it, from his site.

Response from Spruce Nubble Farm

Hey Everyone,

Well its been interesting and frustrating to read through this thread, but I guess we should respond.

Edith did buy several snakes from us. There was a massive power outage in the Midwest this past winter and her entire collection was without heat for almost a week. She eventually moved them to a zoo where they were later kept at 65 until the power was returned. In the subsequent month, one of her snakes died of a resp infection. She came to us trying to collect on our guarantee. She told us that she never read our guarantee, even though we include with every snake we ship, and its also available on our web site.

We explained that the guarantee doesn't cover acts of god or failure to care for the animal properly, but that because she had been a good customer, that we would sell her a replacement snake at 1/2 price to try and help her out. Apparently that was a big mistake - she started harassing us, posting nasty threads about us, etc. etc. She accused us of extortion... you get the idea.

Losing her pet snake was really traumatic for her. She was in tears on the phone and three months later says she is still grieving. She really feels entitled to a replacement snake at no cost to her, even though our guarantee makes it clear that customers have to pay for shipping costs and a necropsy on the deceased animal.

We have sold over 100 green tree pythons since we opened our business, Edith is the only person to ever have one die, and its unfortunate that things degenerated the way they did.

Its true that Ross is a bit of a hot head, and I'm sure he could have handled the correspondence better. At the end of the day, it certainly would have been easier for us to just give her a free snake even though she wasn't entitled to one. We're not perfect, but we really did try and do the woman a favor by offering her a snake at half price.

If there are any other specific questions about the whole situation, I'd be more than happy to answer them. We do everything we can to raise healthy animals that go to happy customers, and reading bold face lies like some of the things posted in this thread is really disheartening to say the least. I really appreciate the opportunity to set the record straight.

Thanks,
Amy Lasley

Ms. Lasley,
Do you have the emails exchanged between you and could you please post them, removing any expletives of course.

Yes I do have the emails, and there were several phone calls too. To be honest, I am hesitant to post them here because it would violate my customer's privacy. Granted, she started the whole scuttle, but I still have to be a responsible businessperson. If it were me, I wouldn't want a company I bought something from to post my correspondence in a public forum.

I'm not sure where that leaves me as far as defending myself, but I feel like its the right thing to do ethically speaking.

-Amy
