In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Tentative list of membership options.

Florida is good enough for me. I will still have the reptile business, so I can't go completely native..... :)

OK, here's the deal. If my paid membership plan fails and I finally come to that conclusion, what I will do is to close down all of the membership plans and stop accepting any advertising that will extend past 1 year from the date I decide that the plan has busted and the site has flushed down the toilet.

And I will post a notice to that effect on this site with an apology, so there will be no mistake about what has transpired.

Along with that apology, I will post my cell phone number for anyone who cares to call me and tell me "I told you so!" while I am laying on the beach enjoying all of my newly found free time. :dancer01:

Is that fair enough?

It isn't going to happen that way; it is going to be a success.
So don't start investing in beach umbrellas.

Just my thoughts..

I agree that paying some way will help in many ways. I know as I am going to college for Web Design that it is a lot of work building a site.
I also wish that there was a way that when you pay there will be some way to TRULY identify your age, and identity.
I don't post a lot, but I sure as heck read a lot. I have learned so much from certain folks on this site. It is a big help in many ways, but I also see trouble in a lot of ways. And it is the folks who start trouble that make it hard on everyone else.
I am getting ready to start a rescue in S. GA and it just aggrivates the heck out of me to see people come on forums and say that they are older when you can tell a lot by how they speak, that they don't seem mature at all. When people post that they have adoptions available, everyone flocks around that site and God only knows who is really getting that adoption.
If I am venting too much, or p*ss anyone off I am sorry. You are doing a great job in implementing a price list for this site. It helps to maintain and it sorta helps to keep people out that are "fake".
If you don't like what I said just glance over to the next thread please, I am not trying to upset anyone here, just giving my opinions.

*P.S. I also want to say that this site saved my one King yesterday from dying, I lost the female but was able to hang on to the male (barely), but I got him to the vet and he is doing great, I get to bring him home today. Thanks!

Take care,
Valarie

valarie! Thats funny! You don't have your age posted...hmmm?

RICH! STEP AWAY FROM THE SUNTAN LOTION!!!
:erm:

I must say that I was surprised to get the e-mail regaurding this, as I currently don't use fauna that much. I spend most of my time on the cornsnakes forum. I do, however, use this every now and then to look up info (I think this is my first real post). When payment options besides paypal are availible, I wouldn't mind paying $10 (that's a little less than 3 cents a day!) or $25 for that matter when I start using this forum more. After all, it took me a month and a half to be comfortable posting my opinions on the cornsnakes forums, because I was still learning about a lot of stuff, and wanted to be sure I knew what I was talking about before I opened my big mouth. Well, hopefully you'll keep us informed on how things go with this!

:erm:
Just to put an answer to your reply Rich, I am 36, I was born in '68'. It is easy to tell my age if I was asked, but it was not a requirement. I wouldn't have my real name on here if I had something to hide. I was just making a comment.

Take care,
Valarie

After reading all the replies and thinking hard about my up comming test...

I have concluded .....That I hate to say this...But.. I am staying away from this site till I can get more money... otherwise I would be obligated to spend another $$$700$$$ that I don't have on snakes... Money is soo tempting to spend these days :dancer01:

Membership is no problem for me... its the snakes that are the killers in my wallet ;)... its a good kind of killen without a bad thing happening ;)

10 G's isn't all that bad seeing as though he has 2 servers of high performance, high bandwith, webhosting, was it 2 or 3 forums with high traffic???? about 300 a month to get a server.... not to mention time and effort, prog'ing, graphics design.... hmmm this would just about equel out.... however, it would be questionable on where one would get their web servers at but I believe it is a price range that could very well cancel out....

Hows it goin Rich??? do we have a member count yet? new members?? PM me lol OH wait you already did! ROFL! well Update me then ;)

Well luckily the timing is right on this. Spring is coming so I am looking around for my sunblock for some relaxing hours laying on the beach ahead of me. And I won't have to lug around my laptop on trips any longer.

Wonder where my snorkel is? Haven't used it in years.....

membership

Webslave, this is the BEST website of it's kind, and I will be happy to support it in any way possible. Don't give up on it yet... give it some time to settle after you implement the changes, and my bet will be that you can run Fauna Classifieds and lay around of the beach!

Sorry Rich, I got hasty. My bad! That comment was to RiverJop. Look, I am not trying to come across as a b*tch, I am not taking the loss of my snake well at all. These snakes that I have are my family, and I tried so hard to keep one from passing and the other one went. Thanks to this site I was able to learn what to do for the one.
Anyway, I am sorry for being hasty, and sarcastic.

Take care,
Valarie

Man finally finished reading the whole thread! I think it took me a few hours, man I can see how tiresome it is for rich to go through so many threads hours on end.

Anywho I went through the whole thread, I think everything sounds pretty reasonable and fair. Though I was wondering why no one brought up the idea of a Lifetime membership?
Most places (Lodges, clubs, fishing and game, the list just goes on) offer a lifetime membership / license of some sort. The price is pretty much up to you but I think and its just my opinion, that $500-600 would be reasonable enough to get a lifetime membership with all the bells and whistles that the other memberships get, maybe something extra too but that’s again is up to you.

I mean personally if I had the funds on me right now I would pay for a lifetime membership. That being said I think I’d hold off buying a few extra critters for my projects/hobby just to pay for something that would be so worth it in the long run.

Rich you and your work on this site are greatly appreciated, Thank you so much!

The suggestion about a Lifetime membership had been brought up before, and I did put some thought into it as a possibility. But quite honestly, with not a clue as to whether this is going to work at all and keep this site around, I think it would be downright unethical for me to ask for a lifetime membership fee from someone if I could not commit to keeping this site around for a long while. As it is, if things don't go well, I am ONLY committed to keeping this site alive for 1 year after I decide it has failed to fullfill those obligations I have incurred with the yearly memberships.

Of course, that one year period would probably be pretty interesting around here. Because although the site will be here, I won't be. I mean, why bother at that point?

So let's just hand on and see what happens. I guess it is really out of my hands now. People are going to be voting with their wallets and their feet as to the future of this site.

AAARGH! quit saying things like this! I mean, I get your point, but please stop sounding like you're looking forward to when fauna fails, beach, etc. It's making me nervous. I mean, you do prefer that it succeed, right?

Well, you tell me. I am getting a group of people saying I am unethical for wanting to charge money for people to use areas of this site. Basically that I should be overjoyed to keep giving of mytime and efforts for free.

So if I have my choices of how to spend time I am not being paid for, which do you think I would prefer to do:

Option 1:

Or Option 2, handling these kinds of email and PMs every day:

Tough one, isn't it?

Yeah Rich, but are you factoring in all of us who are here and supporting you? You may be seeing plenty of people gripe, but I am also seeing plenty of people who are on board with this.

It has always seems to me in life that the 25 to 35 percent that are pissed about something are going to scream louder than the 65 to 75 percent that are content with. ;)

Oh yeah, and there could be a pelican perched on that branch right above your head in that palm tree...... :D

Hell, Rich, if I were you I would be at the beach! that is what worries me :)

Option one...... Or Option two.......

Glad fauna isnt in my hands.....

Sitting here staring at this damned snow outside my window, makes option one look alot better too....
