In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Info TexHiss Jimmy Horton - Poor Animal Condition, Bad Shipping Practices

If I were you, I would create a bad guy thread at this point. The fact that this animal died because it was so poorly cared for before being sent to you is appalling.

I'll greatly consider it if he refuses to make this right... but I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt for the moment, and hope he'll do what's right...

Question, on the off chance it is, what is the protocol for everyone else? How is it verified WHEN it was introduced in his collection? I ask because UKY keeps the specimen. If I need to it back or need further testing of that specific specimen, it would be good to know.
Even if they keep it you will get all the reports, you will probably have to request them if they don't send them to you. But sometimes you can pin point when you bought a certain animal, sometimes you can't and boas can harbor this disease for YEARS and continue to spread it, it effects the young or immune compromised faster.

If it does turn out to be ibd and even if you followed quarantine to a T it is still a good idea to lock down (nothing in or out for at least a year) and maybe get a couple blood tests done on a couple animals, then I believe again in 90 days if it does show negative. I truly hope this ISN'T ibd as it can cause a wide spread shut down of a lot of collections and endanger many people's animal if he's been selling while contaminated. Again the disease IS rare but I've seen a few cases of it and it's best to find out the snake DIDN'T die from it, starvation is bad enough...

The chances of this being IBD are almost 0. And even if it was IBD, it can only be spread through bodily fluids such as blood, as far as researchers know, so unless she also had a mite infestation, it wouldn't pass on to her other animals.

-source is University of Florida.

I thought also aerosolized liquids that came into contact with the infected animal? IE, something like evaporated water? I dunno, that sounds like a bit of a stretch, though... When I do quarantine, for any animal, I wear clothing I've designated as quarantine clothing. Change out when I'm done and clean up, have a good wash.

I also have only one other snake, my Super Coral Sunglow female, and she's no where near ready to breed, so no outs isn't a problem, she won't even be ready until 2017 or 2018... but adding to my collection is always on my mind, especially since I'm now in a position to do so. :/ I know it's excessively rare, but on the off chance it is I'm gonna be so aggravated by that... I mean I guess I could keep her in a different room and use quarantine procedures, but it's still a bummer. I know, not likely, I'm just saying theoretically, if it was.

No, as far as researchers know, it cannot be spread that way. Only mites and breeding really. There have even been infected snakes that were kept in the same cage as a non-infected snake without passing on the virus. Much of the common knowledge about IBD is incorrect. There is even some question as to whether IBD is in fact a virus, or if the inclusion bodies found in infected snakes are unrelated to cause of death.

My true feelings are that this snake died from lack of food and water, and/or possibly from a regurgitation that was not treated well, as regurgitation is extremely hard on boa constrictors, especially babies. I highly doubt it was a contagious illness. I think it was simply bad husbandry and neglect. I am not a veterinarian, but that is my opinion.

Ah, okiedokie. I doubt it's IBD, too, but it's better to rule it out than to end up sorry. That and a necropsy will definitively(hopefully) tell us what happened, whether it's obvious or not.

Nope, not a thing. :(

Wow, I think it's safe to say you won't be getting a refund or any chance of him helping out with the necropsy. Get the necropsy done and nail his behind to the wall!

He'll be taken in tomorrow and their site says it takes 10 business days before results are ready. I'll give him a little after to try and help himself, but if he chooses to do the opposite, then I most likely will do a bad guy thread. :( I'm being fair, and, in my opinion, I've been fair this whole time, though that's coming from me, others may say otherwise.

Further reviewing what else they may need I may print off the photographic evidence for their profile work up. I think I may request they also take photographic evidence and/or logs of their findings of interest... or would that probably be unnecessary?

I would think a scan of their report to you would be sufficient.

Also while IMO it's just as unlikely a diagnosis as IBD, find out if the necropsy includes a test for cryptosporidium serpentis, as one of the symptoms is emaciation.

Will do! I have to call them back anyways to see if it's a flat fee or includes state taxes, so I know how much to pull out.

I'm sorry to hear the little one didn't make it. Did the OP provide a TOS? Curious if he offered any type of health guarantee?

I hope the necropsy will provide you with some answers! As someone that has spent hundreds on necropsy's and pathology testing it's very disappointing when the results do not yield direct answers.

If I were you, I would create a bad guy thread at this point.

It's preferable if all transactions and issues with a person are kept in one thread instead of multiple threads about the same person and in this case, exact same issue.

She said cryptosporidium serpentis is run on the necropsy, but IBD may be an extra test they wouldn't normally run, and may be an additional fee.
