In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

THE SNAKE PIT WAS BURGLARIZED *AGAIN* LAST NIGHT!!

>>Sorry to hear of your losses. Stuff like that really pisses me off...!...and is reason #1 why I do not invite the public into my life / home / collection. I don't sleep with a .44 under my pillow (too lumpy) but I do have GLOCK full of hollowpoints discretely attached to my headboard. Of course any potential intruder would first have to bypass two finely tuned Jack Russle Terriorists to get to me, to get to my collection. "Gee, officer - I must have been in fear of my life because that's why the SOB died of blood loss from having his balls chewed off, see...honest".

Neil, a suggestion = buy a dog. They are legal in most States, even those with watered down 2nd Ammendment attitudes...TW<<

Like I said, anything, anytime. You just say it and VOILA done.. And as for Julie, makes you wonder huh?? And as for Dave, if he is a friend, he will contact you. With Julie being a girlfriend, he may be stuck between love and loyalty.....loyalty always wins in the end if it was true loyalty.
He may in fact not know which way to go....hmm....but time will tell....and the fact of you going to the police, good for you!!! Damn those who did this to you, and if this turns out to be a lead, then so be it!! And I would like to be in line to take a turn at the cane.....
Take care

sweet.
is it a nine?
The only glock I have is the 26. (my back up)
my favorite is the ruger P95 w decock (cheap, effective, hits the target, holds an after market 25 shot clip with hollowheads) not to mention the others safely hidden all over the house. But they have to get past my three dogs. (Zeus, Brutus & Hercules)

Neil.....Time for you to buy a computer.
Install the webcam....
and we can all watch your store for you....
Or better yet.
wire the place so it blows up !! he he he (good for robbers...not too good on reptiles)

hey be careful....remember the guy who broke into a house....injured himself.....sued the owner....and WON !!!

Gotta love arming ourselves , this is the good ol U S of A
I keep a 25 strategically hid in my garage one AR7 in my bedroom and one in the basement, with an assortment of blowguns for the smaller vermin
but the worst thing is the 190lb Italian with the name Apple to look out for because he is a little bent[ crazy, loony]
Hey Neil have you ever thought about marking theives
you know when they break in something explodes and covers them with dye

I don't know if I missed it, but how do these people keep getting in? I read something where you said you were going to brick over the windows, or put barb wire in the ceiling. My store got burglarized about 2 years ago when we were in a small strip mall. It turned out the guy who owned a dry cleaning place next store climbed through the ceiling tiles, over the partition, and into my store, and lowered himself down, and tried to steal my cash register and some other animals. The funny part was I had deadbolts on the front and back door, where you need a key to open them from the inside and outside. So he was stuck. He made a mess of my store trying to get back into the ceiling, but he couldn't find anything to boost himself up that high. So the next day I went to work at around 7, as I was walking towards the door I saw my store trashed through the window. So I called the cops. They came in, and found the guy hiding in my storage closet. I never would have thought that he would have done something like that, because he always seemed so nice. He said he was afraid of snakes he would run in the other direction if I had one out and he came into my store, but he was trying to steal a few pythons from me. So Neil, its something to think about. Maybe its someone who puts on a "act" like they are afraid of certain things that were stolen so you wouldn't think they did it.

>>Ritchie...

My easy access GLOCK is a 9mm with a pre-ban 17 round clip (and another for backup in case I miss with the first 17 hollowpoints -lol...&#33. I have an M-3 Tactical Light attached to round out this package. Although the bulk of my arsenal is secured in a huge safe on one side of my bed (Forma Incubator is on the otherside) I also keep available my primary Carry Weapon, a .357 snub nosed S&W "Bodyguard" with a Crimson Trace Laser Sight = sweet package. That said I have become partial to my .45 Wilsons of late = all effective tools for watching over my family and Herps in the home. But I still say the dogs (JRTs = Jack Russel Terriers) are the most effective intruder detourant (wish this forum had spell check). I've been in this home for 15 years and the previous owner for 35...always dogs in the house...never a break in. Years ago all my neighbors (and I mean ALL) were burgularized over a few year stretch dispite their fancy security systems and cameras. Now most have dogs and since then no break ins where in place. Thus, I was serious when suggesting to Neil that he get a guard dog for his store...and I'm not talking about a pup who greets every customer with a familiar smile - need one that haunts the place at night with a loud bark and an attitude for making de-balling intruders...TW<<

Hi! I know you dont know me and I'm new to the web with reptiles but I would Just like to say sorry to hear the terrible news. I hope you find out who this jagoff is. If there's anything I can do to help let me know. I've never had anyone try to steal any of my reptile in the past 25yrs and consider myself lucky. I always kept one of my big monitors on the loose. lol. Take it easy and hopefully you find that jag that did this to you.

Best Wishes,
Jim Polacheck

Yup
I agree with TW
you can't fire a gun when you are not home although some of us seem to have an arsenal
Dogs work , have one I do,and bark he does. It also pays sometimes to be close nit with some neighbors[ya know you watch mine and I'll watch yours]
They say the bigger the dog the better, but even small dogs can sound a loud alarm
I wish you luck Neil

I'm happy to say that the Raleigh Show was a whopping success for us this past weekend. As such, I am going to be sending Mr. Thomas Crowley a check for $670.04 to pay off the money James Thornton withheld to complete payment on the work he did investigating Neil's December, 2001 breakin.

I have been in contact with Mr. Crowley, but he has insisted that we don't owe him a dime and he is inclined to just let this go as a bad experience for him. That is not acceptable to me, as I am sure it would not be to anyone else here. He did the work, so he is due the money. And as such, once I get a full report, it will be posted on the BOI (as long as this is legally possible and acceptable to Mr. Crowley). I may have to ask Mr. Crowley to consider this money as a payment to spend $670.04 worth of effort to investigate Neil's latest breakin if he is reluctant to accept the money for the past bill. Perhaps if he does nothing more than determine that the came culprit(s) were involved in both breakins, then that would be suffficient to be worth the money to me.

I will let you all know when I know more.

Thanks.

Rich....I think I LOVE YOU!!! Sure hope your wife doesn't get jealous?

Neil,
Really sorry to hear about this stuff that is happening to you. And on top of that insult to injury with all the crap people try to say. I know how you must feel, the pet shop that I work in has had repeated burglaries recently and we are investigating possible security methods. If you need any help with security ideas let me know because we have put considerable time into investigating them. I don't want to post everything on here, might give away some of the ideas I give you for your new security system . Let me know if I can help.

Oh...as far as personal protection methods...my dog would probably lick someone to death before she bit them, but she does have a fiersome bark. Just in case, my personal preference is a remington 870 express magnum pump shotgun...properly outfitted of course...I can disintegrate a fast flying 4" clay disk thrown straight across, so I would imagine disintegrating a 6ft intruder without harming the green tree python he's trying to steal wouldn't be too much of a challenge .(sorry...people stealing stuff really pisses me off.)

I have been out of town since Thursday but before I left I talked to Niel about this (his store and Julie's post).I will tell everyone that I am her boyfriend not her keeper the day she told me about her post I told her then that it is asking for trouble but she is hard headed and posted her opinions. We returned home last night (Monday) and I called Niel then and we had a long talk about everything that has happened and things that are going to take place over the next couple days.I am sorry that this happened again but I can not and will not stop her from posting her opinions that is a God given right she has and I know what she is basing that opinion on (proof) for the last two burglaries of the Snake pit (Niel and I talked of that last night) I am the last person to lay judgement on anyone so all I am going to on this subject is that this time I hope the culprit gets his.

Neil,

Guns, dogs, security systems and booby traps are all well and good but originally I stated that I thought all the break ins may have something to do with your location. How does this other store which is supposed to be right down the road from you differ from yours ? Do they carry high end animals ? Is their store built like yours ? It may have something to do with the tattoo parlor next to you, I am not making a blanket statement about people with tattoos because I have a couple myself, but the element it can attract may be a part of the problem. The person or persons that did this to you are nothing but scum and I really hope you find out who was involved and they are punished to the fullest extent of the law. You are a really nice guy and a you have some nice animals and its really a shame that bad things always seem to happen to good people, I truly hope this will be the last break in/theft that happens to you, because in my opinion you dont deserve any of this. and just a thought .... its too bad crucifictions are no longer practiced with our wonderfully hot sun and high temperatures, then after the victims were all dried out like beef jerky you could cut them up and feed them to your monitors ....... just a ( very evil ) thought.

Neil..you are not alone...
Sometime between the weekend and last night...(cicn't get the whole story)
a pet store in Baltimore also got robbed.
They had Russian Tortoises stolen.
African grey parrots.
chameleons
and snakes stolen
as well as fish

Ritchie-
Hmmm...that story sounds awfully familiar...have you been talking to my boss? fat chance, my boss has never used a computer in his life...The pet store I work for is located in Maryland, outside of baltimore. We had the following stolen:
Russian tortoises
An african grey parrot
Random normal snakes
and yes a few fish
(sound close enough?)
Greek tortoises
Bearded dragons
Redfoot tortoise
This was not easy on us, being a smaller shop. So Neil, I feel your pain. I suggested to my boss that we construct a large cage that is easy to open from the outside and put an adult croc monitor inside that says: "extremely rare crocodile monitor $7000- great disposition", and let the bastards try to steal it!

I'm not sure if Rich will allow this statement to stay, but, I thought you all should hear this from ME before you hear it some other place....
I am not going to go into details, but, I have heard, today, that there are ruors going around that I acually orchestrated ALL FOUR f my own burglaries for the (non-existing) insurance money!! Oh, AND to squeeze money out of my father!!
All I'm going to say HERE, is: it's ridiculous!! ....Neil
