Bad Guy Update on the boa I purchased from Carlos Rojas

I looked through your venom spewing posts Chris Kennard. You make a habit of making inflammatory statements against the victim of bad practices regularly. And I also noticed that you have 1 ad for snakes back in 2006. You aren't an expert in this hobby... do you even have a snake? What you are is a trouble making person who has nothing better to do with his time then butt in to serious situations that don't concern you. You have tried to control this conversation with your "witty little comments". This isn't a game, this is my life, my money and now my time. Go back to your job at McDonalds or get a hobby or do something constructive with your life. You aren't showing your intelligence, you are showing your stupidity. Dan

I don't know why you feel the need to get in on this Laura B but I know a really good plastic surgeon if you want to get that turkey fat hanging off the back of your arm. YUK

So...in summary.

OP provides no proof of mites.
Responsive customer service provided by the seller.
OP resorts to vile comments.

Did I miss anything?

This isn't a game, this is my life, my money and now my time.

You are right, this is not a game. Your real name is here and the responses you have made are permanent.
You initiated this thread and by doing so, invited response. Readers are entitled to their opinions, and with no proof/pictures from you, they must judge both parties by their responses to the issues, because that is all they have to work with.
You responses have become petty and insulting. I strongly suggest you think about the permanent nature of this thread, and the fact that ten years from now, if someone searches your name, they will get to read what you have written here.

Wow. It is incredible how eventually people resort to name-calling and nasty personal attacks. Whatever credibility you had regarding the mites goes out the window. You really shot yourself in the foot. Ironically, you had a reasonable argument originally. Now its gone. Totally.

Uh, that's not my arm. The irony of some poor guy's permanent bad ink and "Hard Coer" obviously escaped you. Much like the permanence of your words here. :shootfoot

I believe Amazon might keep records of items you've purchased, even if you've since cancelled the item, under your "orders". Maybe Carlos could check and take a screen shot?

And maybe Dan could post a picture of the snake with mites, since up until now we still only have your word to go off of, which is worth less and less the more that unnecessary insults keep spilling out from you and your wife.

Also, did anyone else catch that Carlos apparently offered to send mite treatment to Dan based on his word alone, with no photo evidence? I know most sellers (myself included) ask for photo evidence of most claims from buyers.

I call that good service. Out a few bucks and you took care of the customer.

As far as me saying the boa was sick or diseased, when they have mites they are sick. So for those of you who are not aware of what mites can do to your animals, here is a little reading material for you.

Snake mites cause discomfort from their feeding on the blood of the snake. They can transmit bacteria (such as aeromonas hydrophillia) and blood parasites to the snake. They have been implicated as a source of transmission for the boa encephalitis virus.

Also The snake mite (Ophionyssus natricis) is suspected to be a vector, passing the virus from one snake to another. Often, with an outbreak of IBD, the snakes also have concurrent mite problems.

Mites are not a simple thing that go away with no possibility of causing disease or infection.

Dan/Katy,

Your getting blowback over this because your associating the fact that since snake mites are possible vectors that the snake must be sick since it has mites. Using your argument as an analogy, if I got bit by a tick, then I must have Lyme's disease or if I got bit by a mosquito, then I must have malaria, dengue fever, Eastern Equine Encephalitus and West Nile. This is simply not true.

As for being a vector for bacteria like Aeromonus hydrophilia, you are aware that this bacteria is a very common part of the bacterial flora of snakes? (see for example Reptile Medicine and Surgery 2nd edition Saunders Press). The risk that the mites can transmit Aeromonus hydrophilia as a major issue has to be looked at with some suspicion because, the bacteria are normally found in snakes.
With respect to IBD, there are multiple other potential vectors to consider such as contact with materials contaminated with secretions or even small particulates of fecal material. It can be transmitted through a collection by the simple fact of not washing your hands between enclosures when cleaning or changing water bowls. Again Reptile Medicine and Surgery

With respect to quarantine, the reason your seeing so many comments on it is because it is an important control measure. You are aware that some diseases like ophidian paramyxovirus can be transmitted from infected animals (which may or may not be showing symptoms at that time) via airborn particles? Anytime you place a new animal in close proximity to an established collection you have the risk of an outbreak. I quarantine everything regardless of who I get it from and that includes prophylactically treating it for mites. I would do this even if I got the snake from a world renowned breeder. After an unfortunate incident a number of years ago where I ordered some amphibians and received some mites as well, I now also unpack in the quarantine room, and the box and all the materials are treated with PAM.. and placed in a garbage bag which is then tied shut and placed outside.

As for experience, I've been personally keeping snakes since I was 7 with is close to 39 years now and I also spent close to 19 years working in a well known zoological institution.....

With respect to the mites, it only takes one adult female to cause an outbreak and you can't be 100% sure that the mites actually originated from the seller's collection as opposed to picking it up along the way. Possible additional sources are from the packing material or box if it is reused, or even where it was packed. A petstore no matter how carefully cleaned is going to run some risk simply due to the nature of the business.. animals are always coming and going and people are coming and going. Mites can come in with reptiles or from people who handled a infested reptile elsewhere and then handle one of the stores animals or touch the cages.

The argument that the snake must be sick because it has/had mites is simply not valid at this point.

If this wasn't so pathetic it would be hilarious. A couple of you keep arguing even when the truth has been put in your face. My husband did what he should do and posted on here that people should be careful when they purchase an animal from Carlos. According to some of you we had no right to be angry over being sold an animal that should have been in perfect condition. That's what we were told when we made the agreement to buy him. We have pictures of the snake and the enclosure he is in and there are mites. I guess when we were lied to about the product availability for the PAM and it cost us 5 extra days of waiting time before we were able to get this under control should have made us happy right? When someone sells an animal they have to take responsibility for the condition of the animal. Carlos first offered to send PAM and when we found out that Amazon didn't sell PAM we asked Carlos what the name of the stuff was that he ordered. Not only did he send an inferior product he lied about it. I think considering the fact that he got paid for the snake he could have at least been honest so we could have ordered the product he originally said he sent.
When this first started and I read some of the really stupid comments that some of you made I asked my husband why do you care what these morons think? . He lied right here on the BOI and not one of you have even mentioned it. And a couple of you have even defended him since. Amazon DID NOT have PAM on their site last week when Carlos claimed he ordered it. Amazon said that it was IMPOSSIBLE for anyone to have ordered it last week and receive a shipping date. They aren't out, they aren't backed up on orders... Here's the tricky part...try and follow me...THEY ARE NOT CURRENTLY SELLING PAM! Call them and ask them if you really want to know the truth. To get a shipping date you would have to be able to put the PAM in your shopping cart. Can everyone follow that? It wasn't anywhere on the site so it could not be added to a cart. GET IT YET? So I guess he lied about Amazon but not about the mites...or maybe there was a fake Amazon site that he ordered from... or maybe it was Walmart and he can't spell...whew ha Carlos is making a name for himself. We don't have to do a thing to help him with that.
Sincerely,
Katy Wilson

Victim? Venom spewing? Maybe you should start bad guy thread on me for having only one ad here. How terrible of me, lol. I never claimed to be an expert at any time during the 35 years I've been collecting snakes, but I practiced safe quarantine procedures when I was a teenager. And yes I do have snakes and work in home improvements. The only person in this thread spewing venom is you, whoever I am respoding to. I'll call you Daty for now. In any case, you have avoided any questions not containing the word PAM, avoided posting photos, and have done nothing but whine about nothing. Melodramatics never seem to work on the BOI and they aren't working for you.

It's unfortunate that those poor snakes in your collection can't post a bad guy thread on you for allowing them to be infested due to your reckless quarantine practices or lack thereof.

Wow! I just read the good guy post you wrote on Carlos for the first time. Remember this Daty..."this boa is amazing" and "he looks much better than I imagined". In this thread you stated that the same snake is "quite the looker", "better than I thought" and "outstanding". Sounds sick and diseased to me. Case closed.

This is one of the funniest, face-palmiest, backfiring attempts at an insult I've seen here. All we need now is an "Oh, snap!"

Mites

Here are the first set of mite pics.

Here are the receipts for the PAM that was ordered the same day Carlos said it wasn't available and the spray for the boa that was ordered days before.

I didn't post these pictures and receipts because of the wanna be snake experts (HA OMG) on here. I posted them so anyone who wants to check out Carlos can now do it with confidence. The people I've had to deal with on this boi are an excellent example of why this forum isn't worth while anymore. Instead of having this forum for what it is meant for, you fine folks allow people to get on here who obviously have no idea what they are talking about and spew. I could have and would have posted these things a couple of days ago but I allowed myself to get caught up in rants of a few lowlifes one of which needs serious mental health care...(they do have health insurance at McDonalds don't they Chris) See...even I can be a prick just like Chris. When you attack someone because you don't agree with them you open yourself up to whatever you get in return. I had a genuine reason to post here. Posting ignorant remarks like "did I think I was a rock start because I went on vacation" had nothing to do with anything. Chris seemed upset or jealous that we had went on vacation so I responded with the same nasty vindictiveness that he has showed me since this began. If I hadn't left Carlos a glowing reference which, Carlos asked me to do specifically the day the snake arrived, I would have had no reason to come back here and update. The snake I got from Carlos is gorgeous, a real beauty, with or without mites. I have never said it wasn't and as a matter of fact I said that to Carlos even after the mite problem and said it here in one of my posts.. But the snake was sent to me with an infestation which could have caused something more serious in my collection then what it has. An infested snake is a sick snake and tat is what I believe. I paid for the snake, for the shipping, for all of the cleaning products, so I have gained nothing from all of this. This will be my last post and I will not be reading anymore of the mindless uneducated comments that some of you have left. My advice to the people running this mess is to clean it up and listen when people have a complaint instead of allowing the circus freaks to run amuck. And my collection of snakes are very very well taken care of. This is the first mite problem I have ever had so to those of you who believe and say that mites come with the territory really need to raise your standards. My wife made a mistake, but you guys don't even care that you are passing this around.

Still avoiding those pesky little "time frame" questions. 18 days? At this point I'm not sure anyone cares about your PAM fixation.
