Bad Guy Update on the boa I purchased from Carlos Rojas

As far as me saying the boa was sick or diseased, when they have mites they are sick. So for those of you who are not aware of what mites can do to your animals, here is a little reading material for you.

Snake mites cause discomfort from their feeding on the blood of the snake. They can transmit bacteria (such as aeromonas hydrophillia) and blood parasites to the snake. They have been implicated as a source of transmission for the boa encephalitis virus.

Also The snake mite (Ophionyssus natricis) is suspected to be a vector, passing the virus from one snake to another. Often, with an outbreak of IBD, the snakes also have concurrent mite problems.

Mites are not a simple thing that go away with no possibility of causing disease or infection.
 
As far as it being a looker it is a beautiful snake. And the mites weren't visible in the beginning which is common. Maybe you should try reading up on this stuff. I have had to because I personally have never had mites so being in healthcare I wanted to find out every detail. The boa could have picked up mites at the pet store. There could have been eggs in the shipping container if it had been previously used and contained an infected snake. My problem was simple. I do not like being lied to. If Carlos didn't want to go the extra cost and get the real deal then he should have said that instead of wasting my time.
I wound up ordering that and the Reptile Relief myself. Now I am finished with this. I have shown Carlos to be a liar yet again. I have nothing else to prove. I hope people are careful when dealing with him. A person is either honest or they are not.

"Discomfort is not a sickness or a disease. Just because they CAN cause bacteria or parasites doesn't mean they did here. You specifically stated that the seller sold sick and diseased snakes without even having yours diagnosed by a vet. I'd say that makes you a liar.

Coulda, shoulda woulda blah blah blah. You haven't proved where the mites came from. The seller was not obligated to help. If the only problem is that you don't like being lied to, practice what you preach. I'd be way more careful dealing with someone who boasts about their 25 + years of experience while having reckless quarantine habits. Furthermore, perhaps you should read more closely. I was not talking about the visibility of mites. But you know that. I was referring to the ability to recognize a sick and diseased snake which is a far cry from "outstanding".

I am well aware of what mites can, potentially, cause. However, just because a snake has mites, it does not mean it is, automatically, sick/diseased.
There is a difference between potential and what occurs 100% of the time.

Don't get me wrong though. Just as people should always quarantine new snakes, etc., I think it is wrong for a breeder/seller to ship out a snake that has mites (most especially if done knowingly).

I find it hard to believe that with your extensive experience that your wife has none. If she didn't know better, why did you not leave proper instructions with a vacant cage for the new snake? 25 years + experience?
 
BTW At this point in time, I do not know if Carlos knowingly sent a snake with mites.
Heck, we haven't even seen proof of mites for that matter.:shrug01:

Maybe Amazon read this thread and put you on their dnst list. After reading this thread, I would buy from Carlos but would never sell a snake to someone who falsely accuses faith person of selling sick and diseased snakes with no proof.

Always possible that I, somehow, missed it but ....
I took a look at Amazon (searched) and, while I saw other mite products (I.e. Mite Off, Reptile Relief, Mite Guard, etc.), I did not find Provent-a-mite currently there.

You're right. I looked too!

However, the shopaholic that I openly admit to being, can confirm that Amazon works like that. Whether it's lipstick, breakfast cereal, or PAM.

I fully believe Carlos because Amazon has done it to me. Prices change at the drop of a hat, ship out dates change and or get plain stupid, and things you've purchased before (Like perfume. Purchase it every month without fail, and for the the three months before Christmas it wasn't available? And now it's there!) disappear and then reappear!

I know I've purchased PAM there. And Carlos tried to get out a product as a favor to his customer. He wasn't obligated to do so. But Dan hasn't even begun to show me any compelling evidence as to why Carlos would lie, about anything.
 
Hey Dan. How about you post a picture of that "sick" and "diseased" snake? Hope it doesn't look too "astounding". People might view your future posts here in a different light.
 
Also, the fact that it can't currently be purchased on Amazon is a lot different than Carlos lying about it. If the item was backordered, and they were getting too many orders or orders weren't being filled, it's possible they took the listing down.

If the item just wasn't available, and Carlos was going to make up excuses, saying the provent a mite isn't available on amazon isn't much different than saying it wouldn't ship until the 22nd. If he was going to make excuses because he didn't want to send it, it would have been just as easy to say it wasn't available at all.

Great question! I have a question too for the op. Dan, you strike me as a person who would call the seller upon seeing the first mite to present itself. Your boa went from being "quite the looker", "better than I thought" and "outstanding" on Feb. 19 to "Carlos we have a problem" on March 9. The mites, according to you, were "concentrated in his cage" and had "spread to a couple of other cages" IN 18 DAYS! Why didn't you call Carlos when you first spotted the mites?
