In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Info Ben Siegel Reptiles

Hey Dennis, I sold appliances for two and a half years, things showed up with dents in them all the time and still functioned perfectly but guess what, Home Depot gave them a discount if they decided to keep it instead of getting a replacement shipped to them because people didn't want to sit around and wait for a new one to show up. Same scenario but with a live animal. I didn't want two snakes for the price of one.

That's fine if that is company policy.
I didn't want two snakes for the price of one.

Then why not return it? It was offered and you would have been made whole. Shipping paid for by Ben, The transaction would have been undone.

Yet there are many companies that require you to ship back for any refund. Some business make their customers pay shipping back too. Although, I find that unfair for defective products. Anyway, because a appliance center selling heavy objects thinks it would be better served to offer a discount on a large dented product then taking them back is irrelevant to another person or business.

You see there are many ways to make a customer whole and you were offered a way to make you completely whole on this transaction without purchasing another animal. That's not a bad business transaction or a seller being unfair. You were offered a complete refund and that is appropriate. There are many who wouldn't and those people would be deserving of negative attention. A discount isn't germane to correcting the situation just something YOU wanted.

I would like to take a moment to say thank you to Ben. I woke up this morning to find that a full refund had been put into my account, it was not asked for but I appreciate it, that money will go towards bills. I would have been happy had you kept it but being as you don’t want my money anyway, I’m not going to argue with it. .

there is why she wanted the money back instead of auction credit :yesnod:

Just a side note. If I were so 100% sure of myself and set on the fact that I was in no way wrong about how I handled a situation with a client, the last thing I would do is go ahead, after all this, and give them a full refund out of the blue. To me, that is quite the admission of guilt. Just saying.

I have plenty of opinions about this thread, but they can all be left behind since so many people have already said what I think, but I have to respond to this one.

I am at least one other person who would refund someone's money even though I did nothing wrong and owe the client nothing. Indulge me for a minute...

I am self-employed and last winter shoveled some roofs that were in danger of collapse or leaking. I did several, one of which was the worst one and took longer than any of the others. Even though I charge by the hour, and charge a pretty penny, the client was home and saw us working the entire time. The roof took longer than either of us thought, and at $240/hr. for 4 guys, an extra hour elevated the price a good amount. The homeowner happily paid the bill and I went my merry way. That was Saturday, on Monday morning I got a call from the client stating I took advantage of them. We discussed it for about 10 minutes, I explained the charges and they agreed that it was what we had discussed, but they just felt I took advantage of them. By this time I was pretty ticked, since it['s dangerous, backbreaking work to clean 3 ft. of snow and ice from a two story house. In the end, it was MY idea to refund them the disputed amount and along with the check I sent a nice letter explaining the entire thing one more time and advising them to call someone else next time.

A refund an admission of guilt? No, sometimes it's the reaction of someone who is so surprised at the client's actions that they don't want the money any more. And Ben isn't the only one who has done this.

Ben, I totally see your side of this. It's another notch in your good guy belt, IMO.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but animals aren't appliances and Ben Siegel is not a giant corporate entity, so it is silly to compare the two. The main reason such places give discounts for dented appliances cause they would loose out on a lot of money having to ship it back to the store and try to resell it, which would have to be at a discounted price since people don't want to pay full price for a dented/scratched appliance.

An injury on a snake can heal, and that snake could still sell for full price even with the full disclosure of the injury once it has become a minor scar. Ben did way more than Home Depot would ever do, heck since you're going to compare him with them Home Depot loves giving store credit for returns of items bought with a credit card AND they still expect you to return the item

If I were you, I'd publicly apologize to Ben but it seems like even after the refund of the animal you got to keep it seems like you still want this stupid argument to continue.

I'll second that. It's just not worth it. But OP definitely succeeded in giving Ben numerous opportunities to show that he's willing to go above and beyond his TOS.

I noticed she never commented about refunding part of the FULL refund that Ben so graciously gave her that she has continually said she never wanted .

This shouldn't be a win fall for the OP. Mistakes happen and she was out to get the company. Ben offer above and beyond any other company would do. Op needs a reality check .. full refund and keep the money? If she was so uncomfortable about the situation and the snake then send it back and have a refund.. but please pay with your dam shipping like 99% companies do. Let's get real.

Seriously? That's the most intelligent statement you felt was worthy of posting? Nice stab at someone's personal state that you know nothing about.

without jumping her greedy tookus? yes.

she said it. i didn't. :shrug01:

i am quite capable of an intelligent conversation and/or statement but she just doesn't deserve one. <looks for the stab smiley>

The only person who is above Ben Siegel is the all mighty. At least in Ben Siegel's mind that is true. Buying from ben 3 times with the third time being the last I can tell you this is true. His store overcharged me. I am sure it was an accident. However when it was brought to Ben's attention he would not admit fault at all. It was a black and white issue. There was no debate however He condescended me, talked down to me, and made me feel some how it was my fault. I only wanted the problem corrected which after being talked to like I was never approached the subject again with Ben. It just wasnt worth the few dollars I was overcharged. I can tell you Ben in My Honest opinion and some other posters on here is that Mr Seigel is conceded and believes he is above people. Maybe I am wrong maybe he is a nice guy deep down but in business and the way he presented himself to me he is not. All it took was an apology by Ben, but he just didnt have it in him nor does he regardless of the situation. The OP was wrong in some ways, she shouldnt have jumped to conclusions, and should have sent the animal back. However when she says she was brought to tears I can sympathive with her. I am certain Ben pulled his condescending holyier than now attitude. Also, only after Ben degraded the OP was she sent a UPS return label. Did he make it right or try to ultimately yes. Was it necessary to degrade her no. Even after on this board she said Ben made it right by refunding the money he still decided to trash her. Ben be a professional take the high road. She said you made it right accept it and move on.
Anyway, the animal shouldnt have been sent, I shouldnt have been overcharged. Were they done on purpose no. Does ben for the most part sell good animals. Yes. Does he need to try and respect people, listen to them, not think he is better than everyone. YEs.

Over the years, I have bought from and sold to Ben... So as a breeder, does that make my animals sub par? I have never had a bad transaction with Ben, ever!! In fact, he's very easy to get a hold of...and OP really? You couldn't deal with Stacey? She's extremely knowledgeable and more than capable of making decisions...

The original poster is absolutely in the wrong for being greedy. She should have sent some of the money back to Ben, but instead brags that she's paid bills now... Really?

While the snake did have damage, accidents can happen. Ben made it right, and then some... The OP got a free snake and all of her money and still never apologized to Ben for her FB posts... I don't blame Ben for what he said to you... I would be pissed off too.. I think people forget that Ben has a life outside of the store and FB...

Ben, you are still a good guy in my book.....

And to the OP... I actually saw your work at a show and considered buying your almost $300 dollar piece.... but if this is how you do business and your ethics... I think I will take that money and spend it at Ben Siegel reptiles instead..

Just make sure nothing goes wrong it may get corrected but you will be berated and made to feel small.. All hail King Ben.. At least thats the way he sees it..

Robert, you couldn't be more wrong... Ben has never been rude or degrading to me. And Ben didn't trash the OP... Go to her FB and she what she did to him and maybe you will understand his anger. If someone said rude things about me, I wouldn't be very happy.. yet he still refunded her money and she kept it AND the snake... As far as your transaction with Ben, did you realistically try to fix it? Ben is a stand up guy... He would have made it right.

Go to her FB and she what she did to him and maybe you will understand his anger.

You can't see what she did to him... she took the post down a long time ago, which was smart on her part because it made her look bad. I read the full post before she pulled it and IMO she was bulling Ben to get what she wanted.
