In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy D&M REPTILE RESCUE

David a group of us that live in the Tucson area would like to come by your rescue facility and see the conditions for ourselves. Can you please return our emails and phone calls? We are truly concerned about the welfare of these animals and we can help find them proper homes and I will donate rats to help feed them if you're overwhelmed. May we take pictures of your animals and enclosures if she isn't telling the truth? I let her take pictures of my animals when she visited my home. Can you prove that anything the OP is saying isn't true?

Put me on that visit list.

I live in Corona, but I'll make the trip.

I get nothing out of lying about this. I have nothing to gain. I just want the animals cared for. I got two boas from a lady tonight that wanted them to go to someone who WILL get vet care for them and I didnt charge her a dime. Why? Because I just want animals to be healthy. Yes I get the need for surrender fees but when they are not being used to actually get vet attention I have an issue with that. You are charging people to place an animal in a death camp, there is no better way to describe it. I went to c.gillis house, her animals are top notch, i got in contact with her through a woman who I got a tv stand for so that I could move my boa down stairs.

She was impressed with the way I cared for my animals. My animals cages smell like fresh earth- not poop or rotten garbage. Animals come first in this hobby, its something we all need to understand, their health and well-being is FIRST. If you cannot provide them with vet care and medical attention- which they all need, then PLEASE just surrender them to the phoenix herp rescue, they have offered to come in a special trailer and get them. If you got overwhelmed why didnt you try and contact them? They seem more than happy to help. It took MONTHS if not YEARS for those animals to get in those conditions. Many would be better off euthanized. That being said breaks my heart, no animal should have to starve/get leached off of by parasites. It takes a long time for a snake to get that thin unless there are other problems added on. GET VET CARE. Stop charging the surrender fee if you dont get them vet care. For goodness sake, get some uvb bulb for the lizards- get that tegu in the proper housing at a year old it shouldnt be 6 inches long.

I have nothing to gain by lying about the conditions. I wouldnt get any animals out of it, i am not competing with them for "business". I want healthy animals. OF ALL SPECIES.

So once again Im not sure how things work over the pond but when all else fails here people will often write/get in contact with their local MP/Councillor.

Is this something you can do? Im not sure how much help it would be but if he does decide to help you can bet your asses that the local PD/Media will stand up and take note.

hi my name is david I run d&m,s reptile rescue, the day this person came out to volunteer her time to help clean and feed the reptiles, was a day when we clean all the cages on saturdays. we do not pay anyone to help us clean and feed.I do all this rescue work out of my own pocket, no grant money or large donations given too us.yes the torts cage was dirty it was cleaning day what do you expect when they walk all over there food If people have aproblem with us please let us know about it so it can be fixed. we have been doing this for 12 years here in the tucson, marana area this is the second time the person went to the authorities instead of us first so the problem could be fixedIf you want to talk to me call me at 520-256-7747

The second time??

Seems like you would have made some changes after the first time.

all it takes is a little time to clean up that rotten compost in the Tort pens.

please call me at 520=256=7747 and we can set a time for this saturday for you to come out and see the place. I have nothing too hide. the phone number is too my cell phone, call any time please. I did not know she was takeing pictures when she was there to help clean and feed. And again we do not pay anyone to volunteer at our place, or we do not have them work it off to get a reptile for less. thank you david

I am curious to see how this turns out. Obviously the "rescue" can clean things up before people come to look around on Saturday, but it wont be as easy to hide the signs of neglect on the animals themselves. I am also curious to see if proof of veterinary care is provided.

I would very much like to find out that this has just been some sort of misunderstanding or something and that these animals are truly cared for, but at the moment it does not look good. I second the question of, "why is this the SECOND time someone has gone to the authorities with claims of neglect?".

its not the second time, its probably been reported many many times but, sadly, reptiles dont get the same treatment.

this is the most recent update ive gotten http://www.ssnakess.com/forums/general-discussion/98253-oh-my-god-4.html#post819199

Just like children's services giving a heads up call, the house is always clean when they get there.

I honestly think that establishments that take in animals should be subjected to random "flash inspections" without warning.

wow, I just read all the crap those guys at the other forum were giving you, and I am so sorry. As heartbreaking at it was to leave the animals there, I understand you not being able to physically and mentally handle it. I can't say I would have been able to stay either.

Anyways, back on topic. It is good to know that those animals may finally be seeing some help, but really... $700 adoption fees? For what? The vet care he didn't give them? The garbage he fed them? The proper husbandry that he DIDN'T provide?

I believe people have requested copies of vet bills for treatment of these rescues, why have they not been posted?
I'm with everyone else, they can spiff up the place for an inspection, but nothing is as damning as a long period of time involving the care of rescued, undernourished and otherwise compromised critters, and no vet records to show for it.

This is so crazy. I have lived in Arizona every year of my life, and I have never heard of this rescue, and I do rescue myself. Next time I am in Tucson area, Ill have to swing by and see this place.

As the leader of that forum, I have to say I was rather disturbed by some of the gruff she got from members there.

I called every herp vet within driving distance- no on has seen them in forever. So every 100 dollars, where is that going? Its not to vet care, ALL of them need vet care and have for a long butt time. Sores that are that deep seeded as I saw in the iggys, the no jaw iggy that was skin and bones, torts with sunk in eyes, tegu- so small and emaciated and dehydrated and just WRONG, the snakes are horrible too, with many seasons of stuck sheds and emaciated. One female in there would be a wonderful animal if she wasnt a crawling skeleton. The bones stick out so much that they have caused small rubs where the bone and skin make contact, so you see the bones MORE, the jungle carpet pythons dont even feel like real animals, its just a some scales and air, ive held heaver potato chip bags. The beardie was bad as far as lights and set up and the bull snake didnt even look responsive. Smaller torts shells looked bad, I saw a healthy african spur recently, i couldnt believe they were the same species. The big ones shocked me more. It took YEARS for all of this to happen. No vet has seen these animals. None Ive talked to. Where did the money that people donated to the rescue go? Where did that 100 dollar surrender fee go? Food was supplied by whole foods and you trapped pack rats as food. Which is wrong.

Tortoises should not be getting swiss chard.... that LOOKS like swiss chard to me! Do you have any idea as to basic tortoise diet? Please, give those torts to a rescue that can actually care for them. ALL of the conditions of your "rescue" are FILTHY.

I posted on Tort forum too, alerting Tort people to this thread ( hopefully they dont take it down) I just want to see those torts get the right care and able to graze naturally on REAL food!

Housing sulcatas outdoors in the winter with no heat source is just cruel in it's self. These animals do not hibernate and should never have their temps drop below 60F and it snowed yesterday in Tucson, not to mention that week we had last month of below freezing nights.

and is't it stealing to take $100 for vet bills and then not spend it on vet bills?

I agree, tortoises need some kind of shelter, ie; burrows, insulated dog houses or hides made from hay etc. I have seen numerous breeders in Arizona, that do not provide a heated space. But do provide adequate shelter from temperature extremes in summer and winter.

Was the $100 specifically for vet bills or for feed and care?

The web page states this about surrenders
"If you wish to turn custody of your reptile over to D & M's Reptile Rescue and Rehabilitation please contact us and complete the form below. Reptiles will not be accepted unless a release form is turned in with the reptile. We also require a $100.00 surrender fee to cover veterinary and food expenses."

So if the reptile requires vet care and is surrendered with the $100 and the money isn't spent on that reptile, what is that called?
