In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I would be hard pressed to find an example to back up your theory that did not fit into the following parameters.

Category One: Cutting Someone Slack

1.) The individual has a long term good reputation

2.) The individual immediately takes responsibility and makes every effort to right the deal

Category Two: Going For the Throat

1.) The individual has no reputation to aid him in initial public opinion

2.) The individual takes a defensive stance and denies any responsibility

3.) The individual immediately becomes a raging ass and tries to make the incident into a joke.

4.) The individual has such a crappy rep already that he is fighting a difficult uphill battle

I would seriously like to see a couple of definitive examples Greg but I am not going to hold my breath. I genuinely don't think you can produce one.

Cliques will always exist in a community of this sort. As someone stated earlier, likeminded people tend to gravitate to one another. Well known individuals with a long positive history will, of course, receive a bit more benefit of the doubt than an unknown. Is it fair? No. Is it inevitable human nature? Of course

However, it is almost always the way someone responds to a bad guy post about them that dictates the way they are received and treated on the BOI.

The measure of a "good guy" is not that he never has a problem, it is in how he deals with and repairs the problem

Gosh I wish I had written that, it's great.

Well....

"I actually thought that some of you would maybe take a hard look at what has been done...guess I was totally wrong."....Gregg

Your not wrong. This site tends to come across just as the way you described it, though I am sure its not actually that bad. Its especially that way for newer member like myself. It does seem that if you are not regular visitor, and if you have a differing opinion, that you get shot down most brutally. I have seen some guys come here and try to defend themselves, only to rudely be smacked down. Nothing wrong with telling them they are wrong, but this place does have a "high and mighty" feel to it. Ussually the High and mighty are the same group of people. Like I said, its more apparant if your new, like me. You can ignore this post if you want, but, thats how I feel. Take it for what its worth.

Okay I'm still trying to figure out what started the wedgie in your Hanes so here it goes. I don't see where the first posts were easy on the guy.

I can't say that I have ever dealt with Ray, but looking at the box...No wonder it is such a hassle to ship reptiles if Airport personnel see things like this coming through. Even if it was the fault of his employees, he should square things out with you since HE is responsible for HIS employees.

I get so sick of hearing that lame excuse! He is responsible for his employes. If they screw up, it becomes his screw up to fix. That is how it works. His packing job was pathetic at best! Keep after him, and let him know about the existance of this thread. Then we can see if he still thinks ignoring you is good for his business.

This is very surprising. I have read a lot of good things about Ray. I hope he gets on soon and explains.
So we have two posts who do not condone the way the animal was packed, etc. and one who is surprised after hearing only good things about Ray and wants to hear Ray's side of the story. How many BOI threads were turned when "the other side of the story" is presented? I think people are more reserved in their initial posts now BECAUSE of the fact they're only hearing one side of a story.

I agree, there is no reason for that. Who knows he probably packaged that box himself..Big names and bad business, seems all to common here recently...
5th post which is yours, Greg. I don't see you going for the jugular. Oh wait you already stated you were guilty too. So why fill the BOI up with crap?
cthulhu77 said:
Just out of curiousity, are you going to keep the snake or send it back? I would almost be afraid to send back a live animal to anyone who kept them in conditions like that...
Then a post was made by someone who had a good deal with Ray but had bad communication but condemned the mites and the way this animal was packed. And then Dan made his mite post and it went downhill from there with people focusing on Dan instead of Ray.

What's wrong with people saying they want to hear the other side of the story? Why does that make it "going soft" on someone or making them "friends"?

I am not trying to sit in some ivory tower here...just trying to understand what has happened...I think Wes has hit the nail on the head (what a suprise) with his post on this thread.
You're not in an ivory tower, but you're certainly in something and it smells.
As I've said before, I consider YOU GREG in the infamous "CLIQUE". Your posts along with a lot of other "names" are ones I SEEK out because the posts are (usually) excellent.

I also consider myself a "Wes woman" that is until I don't agree w/him on something and he rips me a new one. But so far I've agreed w/him on just about everything he has posted.

So the point of THIS post is to try to find out what made YOU post what you did. You keep saying, that it's there and you just have to read it. Well I, and apparently others, can't find it. I live in the SHOW ME State and you have to show me! Please, if it's so darned obvious then it shouldn't be too hard to post a few quotes.

New member? You've been on this site longer than me. It's your own fault (and choice BTW)if you chose not to participate. I do agree that someone who just joined or doesn't post much tends to get ignored. But you have to plug along and eventually someone will talk with you. It's kinda like starting at a new school. At first everyone ignores you but they warm up with time. :hehe: :hehe: Now that I think about it every question I've asked on the forums has been answered, even when I was a "newbie". So I can't say I've truly been ignored, now can I? I bet you weren't ignored either. See I'm not ignoring you.

No matter where you are there are going to be people who don't agree with you. It's a fact of life. I guess we need more people to join and start a new clique, the clique that doesn't agree with Wes. :dgrin:

It's very true that this place can take on a "mob mentality" from time to time. The first thread in which I actively participated I was on the "wrong side" only insofar as asking for what I considered to be fairness. As a result I was associated with the so-called "bad guy" and was accused of defending him, which of course I had not done. It can be a bit intimidating here for people without established reputations. On that thread I even got into it with Wes, with whom I have since found myself in agreement virtually 100% of the time. The point is that it is rare that one will find him or herself in a postion of influence if one is not well known, and until then much of what one says will necessarily be suspect. That's simple human nature and isn't unique to the BOI.

Now ain't that the truth!!! Look at me, member since what?.... Nov 2003. Made my first post 2 weeks ago. Started off slow then I picked up steam. I kept going though, thinking the whole time. Some people are going to look at me and think, WhoTF is that? Other's won't even notice me or I might make a friend or two and do I dare say it...............Get drawn into a clique....J/k

But I still consider myself a newbie............ Will for a while, guess I am just waiting for the moment when I won't feel new anymore. :wavey:

Just a note to let everyone know who is following this thread that shortly it will be moved to the forum it actually belongs in: the FaunaClassifieds Feedback Forum.

I never said anything about being ignored. What I said was that you are more likely to be treated harshly when you are not in agreement with the powers that be here. People respond to me all the time when I post. Thats not the issue. The issue is that the more popular you are here, the less likely you are to be attacked for voicing your opinion when it doens't mesh with the in crowd here.
Example, since so many of you are into examples. Some time ago, I took a position defending a few of the shipping practices of a member here, because I had seen them for myself, and they worked well for him and for me. But, becuase they were not the way everyone is used to seeing them packaged, he was attacked. When I tried to defend his position, you should have seen how many negative points, or whatever the rating system is that you guys use here. I even got an email flame from one of the in crowd here. Its absoulutley intimidating to come here, and there absolutely is a mob mentality. Make no mistake about it.

hey lucille, will you mind answering my posts above? i would really rather discuss this more indepth to some sort of conclusion... and the relivance or irrelivance of my giving you point... what it that you actually got mad because i soke the truth and sometimes its hard to accept or maybe my obcenities and vulgarities... also some of the other questions pertaining to the whole favoritism thing regaurdless of the ray g thread of poopy, urates and mites (i wonder if he has his very own brand?)cuz trust me this thread aint all about ray g... however some people cant seen to see past that and see the over all picture

it's rather entertaining to see you avoid both mine and kellis post after you started slingin the poo, but ya cant handle it when its slung back eh?

Robin: what you wrote me was rude and uncalled for and you are correct, I will rise above it and after this post will never respond to it again.
There are times when discretion is the better part of valor and that time is now, for me. If you are spoiling for a fight, go pick on someone who wants one; I will not fight with you.
I can love you as a Fauna member, I can, like the rest of the board, feel good when your dog made it through a difficult time; but Robin, you were uncouth, and spoke in the spirit of hostility, and I refuse to promote that sort of response.
When disagreements are unavoidable or inevitable they should be done with a problem solving approach.
What we need to do in the reptile world, what with all the restrictions and laws and scams going down, is emphasize our strengths and commonalities rather than stir up hostilities and differences.

I agree 100% You and Robin can sling poo to your both brown and smelly. At the end of the day we are all here to promote, enhance and enjoy the reptile community. Because all other "poo" aside, that is really why we are all here.

i feel that rocky song coming on...
thing is lucille... i want to see my graphically nasty and Vulgar comment... see funny how a couple days later it's just rude and hostility (whcih i doubt even hostile). in this instance discretion (on your part) is being a coward, maybe being a weiner or wuss... whatever you want to call it
:shrug01:

i appreciate the support when pickles was sick but this is not about that... and honestly i really dont need anymore lovin i got plenty thank you :raspberry .... all disagereements can not be solved... i mean ok some people react to non confrontational comunication however for some it just doesnt get through that thick skull and thats when the bluntness needs to come out(and oddly just to get a point enough) :>poke2<:

and yes the reptile comunity needs to come together however first you need to educate yourself on your animals you keep and how to responsibly handle them and care for them and know your local, state and federal laws also CITES
it's not just about hugs and kisses and love... its about education and awareness :>poke2<:

And at the end of that thread, when misunderstandings had been talked over, if I'm referrig to the same thread you are, WHAT then was the outcome?

I believe it was all to the better, was it not? And if it was, that sort takes the wind out of your sails, does it not? Which, in a round about way, puts it right back in your sails here as you are now being supported about the lack of support you initially, but not eternally, recieved.

A line about having it, and eating it too comes to mind right now. Ooops, there goes that wind again. Fickle, ain't it?

Imho

This place should be called the Board of Inquisition not the Board of Inquiry. A person shouldn't have to sift through pages and pages of petty BS and personal attacks from people that have no first hand knowledge of a situation in order to get to the pertinant information. I have done a lot of business with many people that are dam near worshipped on this board and the service they've provided has been less than steller. I've also done business with people that this board has crusified and have received good service. Everything does not have to be an arguement and not everyone is guilty until proven otherwise. Yes everyone is entitled to have and express their opinion but come on you don't have to express your opinion on every single matter and if your only goal is to see how many people you can flame today you need to get a life. Forgive me if I'm wrong but wasn't this board created to help people?!
