Emails, proof and a single 3-year old Bad Guy thread aside; I could not care less about those; I'm more inclined to wonder, like others, about ethics and motives here.
Joe's very first post is about his perceived mistreatment by Jeff. He met with a "gentleman" and purchased the tortoise.
NO mention of the tort's alleged mistreatment was made in his initial or quite a few later posts. Where's the outrage, the Bad Guy post on the "idiot" who mistreated the tortoise in the first inital posts?
Even after meeting the "gentleman", seeing the tort in person and purchasing her, Joe quickly decides he no longer wants her, despite her "horrendous" condition and places his ad on KS and Craigslist. The "gentleman" becomes an "idiot" and she becomes a "rescue" that Joe describes as "a very beautiful animal" in his Craigslist ad Nick/Focal (good job!) uncovered.
Then this:
...I rescued the tortoise because I felt I did rescue that tortoise from the person I bought it from. Did you see the shell growth???? The tortoise had obviously not been given the proper diet! And then when I first picked it up it was underweight for its size ... I truly felt sorry for the animal ...
Again, when I met this so called gentlemen, the tortoise looked horendous, but he seemed very sincere. Definitely my mistake for trusting him with the story he had sold me
You felt so sorry for the animal that you attempted to unload her less than two weeks after purchasing her?
You felt so sorry for the "horrendous" condition of that animal that you had the gall to ask $1250 and $900 + shipping for? And describe her as beautiful? The animal you had for what, two weeks tops, and YOU said this about,
"Did you see the shell growth???? The tortoise had obviously not been given the proper diet! And then when I first picked it up it was underweight for its size"
She's underweight and malnourished but it's more important that you unload her as quickly as possible since you just don't want to add her to your collection, as you stated in your initial post. Yeah, okay.
I'm not defending Jeff or KS or Jeff's decision. It's about back-peddling, contradictions and ethics. If that tort was in such bad shape then ethically and professionally, YOU should have taken the higher ground and nursed her back to decent health before you flipped her. Just as you said about the guy you bought her from, it definitely could be someone else's mistake trusting you with the stories you tell ... just something to think about.
