    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Info Just got this from SYR

One correction - if I'm sending a box with that includes more than 2 or 3 species (ie, sending a group of animals to a dealer), instead of putting the contents on the box, I make a notation to See Packing List For Contents.
 
Harald, didnt see your post, I type too slow but I believe I answered that on my last post. The content of the package goes on the Item Description part of the shipping label. I believe is in the bottom left corner (with UPS) so the description will be there on the outside of the box

It's been a loooong time since I sent anything UPS (in fact, I think my UPS account has been deactivated as a result), so I can't comment on the "item description" that you referred to...BUT, there is no such field when setting up a FedEx shipment (at least not that I have ever found)
 
Their is no argument to be made on whether or not the outside of the box needs to be clearly marked, the law states it:

Option One from 50 CFR 14
(guidelines of the labeling requirements mentioned in the Lacey Act)

(i) Conspicuously marking the outside of each container or package containing fish or wildlife with the word “fish” or “wildlife” as appropriate for its contents, or with the common name of its contents by species, and

(ii) Including an invoice, packing list, bill of lading, or similar document to accompany the shipment which accurately states the name and address of the shipper and consignee, states the total number of packages or containers in the shipment, and for each species in the shipment specifies:

(A) The common name that identifies the species (examples include: Chinook (or king) salmon; bluefin tuna; and whitetail deer) and whether or not the listed species is venomous; and

(B) The number of that species (or other appropriate measure of quantity such as gross or net weight).

The invoice, packing list, bill of lading, or equivalent document must be securely attached to the outside of one container or package in the shipment or otherwise physically accompany the shipment in a manner which makes it readily accessible for inspection​

No one said anything about "14 Font Size and in bright red" (14pt btw, is very small, so it's a poor attempt at exaggeration) however, by definition of conspicuous, it DOES have to stand out. SYR does not explain that the outside of the box needs labeled in their video at all, despite it being pointed out to them months ago.

For what it's worth no where does it say on my Fed-Ex reptile shipping waiver that I cannot ship to a residence. I have seen it on people waivers that were received after I got mine, but mine doesn't say anything about shipping to a business only.... I would assume that I'm not the only one without this "restriction" listed on their waiver...
 
BTW - just because I am not in agreement with some of Robyn's statements, it doesn't mean I was anti-SYR. I did see it as a good thing because it made the process simple for the person that seldom ships, and because it offered another option and (for some people) a savings for those that did enough to already have an account elsewhere. As I've said before, my refusal to use SYR was purely a reflection of my feelings about UPS.

If it turns out that Robyn was less than honest about the waiver, or its terms, it would be a disappointment.
There IS an awful lot of speculation going on; but since Robyn isn't willing to post here, we're at a bit of a disadvantage. So he likes other forums better - it's his right to pick and choose where he posts (just like it is my right to choose where I look for information)...but if he's not going to explain it to US, then I can't be too critical of people trying to work it out for themselves.
 
If there were people that knew that the SYR packaging video (and anything else for that matter) was wrong and didn't follow the lacey act in ther first place, then is there another older thread that deals with this subject? I'm totally new to shipping and I've def. received more than I've sent. I've only used SYR 2 times, and am now in the process of being Fed Ex cert. bc we gonna have our biggest year this year and I want to do everything right.

I'm just curious bc A LOT of people use SYR and then all of the sudden now that SYR got caught up in this mess, seems like some of the SYR customers has turned against them, but did they know the whole time that SYR didn't follow rules? so just now are turning against them? bc now SYR is, for lack of better word, 'busted'?

I'm just wondering if this issue has come up before and if it has I'd like to read that post.

I provided SYR a copy of 50 CFR 15 in March 2009. Link to thread. See post #23. We had a small discussion with Robyn about it in the thread, so he was fully aware of it over a year ago and made no attempts to correct the video or edit his FAQ.

Neither am I. I give customers the choice to pick their shipping (though because of my experience with UPS and reptile shipments, I don't UPS shipments if they screw up). I actually use SYR more for ground product shipping (not always necessarily reptile related) then anything. I like the interface and organization compared to UPS's site.

Ship your reptiles always seemed fishy to me anyways. I used it a few times and had to take my packages to a staples to drop off because the ups store would not allow me to drop them there because it was against there policy to ship snakes. Which makes no sense. Some people from ups will say its fine to others say its not allowed. Which makes me question syr. Every shipment with smoothless except for my last and final shipment I will ever ship through ups or syr. I shipped a lady an albino ball python female. And the ups driver did not pick my package up and Im not sure if that was ups fault or if was the staples fault but it sat at the store overnight and then when they did pick it up they lost it in transite and could not tell me where it was so I could just come pick her up. It took her 4 days to arrive. I was amazed she was alive this was in febuary so temps were not in my favor and I used 24 hour heat packs so she had no heat after that. Also when I have recieved snakes through ups they are always here late. The shipper will tell me they paid overnight and it should be here around 10 or 10:30 the next morning and they always arrive between 5:00 and 7:00 pm. Fedex is always here on time.

Seriously? Come on Stephanie, you know what I meant. I was using the 14 Font Size example compared to the font size we all use here on Fauna. Do I really need to be quoted and slamed on that? That's what I mean, some people here are just trigger happy and waiting for some one to F-up so they can jump on it even if it was an honest mistake.
I label all my boxes (I have only shipped 3 times) with the item description on the outside of the box, and the "live harmless reptile" paper on the inside of the box, but I definitely do not want to make my box scream Hi, look at me...there's a snake inside me!

Diego, do you understand why the laws are what they are in regards to labeling fish & wildlife for shipments? It's to protect the animals and the courier employees.

If you put a tiny little label on a package (which is not "conspicuous" as the law states), no one will notice it...Which defeats the purpose of the label. The label is to notify couriers what's inside the package, which in turn would encourage them to be gentler with the package (which of course does not always happen, but at least effort was put forth to appropriately notify them). These are live animals we're dealing with, not a box of socks. Not only should you be careful with how you package, but with how you notify the courier that it's alive and care should be taken.

And yes, the link you submitted I already provided via screenshots (the domain is blocked here) of Robyn and others bashing Fauna and its members. I will say that if the contract is so hush-hush, why did you supposedly show it to this random guy? Why not show it to someone upstanding/known in the community?

Sam - FedEx changed their live animal policies within the last year or two(not certain of exact date). This is the current policy regarding live animal shipments:

Live Animals and Ornamental Marine Life (Including Live Fish)
FedEx Express does not accept live-animal shipments as part of its regular-scheduled service and does not transport household pets such as dogs, cats, birds and hamsters. FedEx Express may accept certain shipments of live animals such as horses, livestock and zoo animals (to and from zoo locations only) on an exception basis if approved and coordinated by the FedEx Live Animal Desk (call 1.800.405.9052).

If approved by FedEx, we may accept non-venomous reptiles, amphibians, live/tropical fish and beneficial insects on an exception basis under the following conditions:

1. Shipments must be from a business to a business (from a breeder to a pet store, for example).
2. The shipper must have its packaging tested and pre-approved by FedEx Packaging Design and Development for the type of animal being shipped. Call 1.800.633.7019 for assistance. It is the responsibility of the shipper to adequately package shipments for all temperature extremes and handling conditions.

Contact your FedEx account executive for details and additional requirements.

Since this change, all waivers specify business to business; however, even those waivers which do not specify this are still held to the change in policy according to my account rep. FedEx can refuse the shipment if it is not addressed to a business. Some will tell you it is ok to ship to a residence if it is a home based business but this is not true. Some, like myself, will ship only to a FedEx staffed facility for pick up in an attempt to comply with this condition but even that isn't 100% on the up and up. The reality is, if the package is addressed to a residence, it is not in compliance with FedEx policy or the waiver under its current policy.

Fact is, those who do not follow FedEx's policy by shipping only to a business address are violating their current policy. Funny how people are so quick to chastise those who ship via UPS because they are violating their policies, and boast about being FedEx Certified, only to be violating policy themselves when they ship to a residence.

Anyone certified with FedEx can easily consult with their account rep. to verify everything I stated.

Deborah, I dont know how much profit the make by doing this but I do know they have saved people lots of money.
And bout bending the laws I already explained my thought in the above post.
SYR used to be able to ship snakes but not anymore, and yes their website hasn't changed but it has only been a few days since UPS said no more snakes. Give them some time. It is really easy to jump to conclusions but we (or at least I) do need more evidence before I make up my mind.

I believe Robyn stated he ONLY wanted to explain it to his customers.... what I find funny. I started a poll about 1 day ago... "who has used SYR". Currently he has 20 customers here that have voted in that poll and its only been one day.
