Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Wendy Griffin- HORRIBLE WOMAN!

So whats the Crack about him "buying and stealing geckos from Petco" about? DO YOU KNOW FOR A FACT HE HAS STOLEN GECKOS FROM PETCO?

Nobody thinks the kids perfect, he's obviously used poor judgement, but why are you making this case against him? Are you Wendy or a friend of hers?

Yes I know for a fact:
http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=47254

We went up to Petco today to get a birdcage, as we where walking towards the back of the store i spotted somthing out of the corner of my eye, i moved towards it and it was a baby leopard geckos with a semi regrown tail, i picked it up and held it close to me so no one would spot it..went out to the car. dried out a peper coffee cup and put her in, went back inside and acted like nothing had happend, lol

lol i had no money..so i wasnt going to pay fer her..LOL

Do you not call this stealing?

Dan Quinn of Manhattan Herps is no better than many of the bad guys here. The difference is he has not been given the opportunity to sell offspring from the unhealthy animals he collects, because he has not had success breeding them yet.
But it is obvious to me from the trends I see in his behavior that he is well on his way to being an unethical business/hobbyist who cares more for profiting off of the animals than promoting their wellbeing.

You shouldn't buy deformed or otherwise physically unhealthy animals as breeding stock. Would anyone disagree with that statement?

But Dan has done that repeatedly.

He acquires breeding stock with disregard and disrespect for the animals.

Who here that claims to love animals would buy deformed animals to breed?

Who here that wants to contribute to the continued success of captive propogation of a species that is becoming increasingly inbred would accept trades for breeding stock indiscriminate of the quality?

Who here would steal an animal from the floor of a petstore (with the thought in mind that it's a female, i.e. future breeding stock, mind you) because you couldn't afford to pay for it?

You underestimate my criticism of Dan Quinn if you think he is not capable of stealing from PetCo. Read my reply directly above.

Dan Quinn of Manhattan Herps, Tokay Dude, stole from PetCo.

Fact.

End of Story.

Thanks Steve!

We must have been posting at the same time. Of course it was wrong to take that lizard. I have a pet shop and recently had a couple of kids manage to steal a Cal. King, Mexican Milk, and Albino Garter. They told the Police they found them loose in the shop and put them in their pockets. About 6 of them would come in and 2 or 3 would keep me busy while the others would open cages and grab snakes. They almost got away with it but they left a cage open and I noticed it a quick check showed the 3 snakes missing, I locked the door and called the Police ( you can do that with Juvies, adults have to actually leave the store before you can do anything). They all insisted the they found the snakes loose, and the law says if its still in the store (or even right outside) its still my property. I pressed charges on ALL 6! I didn't call the Police the day an adult tried to steal a pair of Red Ackies, but I GUARANTEE you that person will NEVER steal again. A couple of friends happened to be in and they got them back for me.
He did steal that Gecko! I think the boy needs a Mentor to get him straightened out.

obviously not, stealing is still horribly wrong no matter which way you slice it. I sure as hell wouldnt let him roam here without a watchful eye hovering closley behind.

"rescue" from petco or not, its still theft. Sure beats recklessly shipping sick animals however and dooming them to certain death....

Agreed.

That doesn't change the fact that Dan also knowingly traded for an unhealthy animal.

That doesn't change the fact that Dan knowingly acquired an unhealthy animal to use as breeding stock.

Neither one of them looks good in my eyes.

Wendy sentenced an unhealthy animal to death by shipping it.
Dan would have attempted to breed it and unload its offspring on the rest of us.

You all remind me of the Moral Majority.

Holier than thou.

I suppose NONE of YOU live in glass houses with all the stones you are throwing.

Leave the kid alone...he is just a kid. He has some ethical issues...but nonetheless you are persecuting him like an adult.

Maybe with some POSITIVE reinforcement he would understand the error of his ways...instead of beating him into a corner.

And if he is a BARGAIN hunter...so what...how much money did YOU have when you were 17??

I will not buy animals from him beacuse he is planning on breeding subpar animals...and I am not defending that action n the least...HOWEVER, there are PLENTY of people breeding crap animals...and much worse scamming THOUSANDS of DOLLARS from the herp community. These people are the ones that should be prosecuted and attacked verbally.

This is just a kid...a little misguided...but with decent intentions...just needs a little redirection and some ethics with regards to the reptile industry shown to him in a positive way...so that he UNDERSTANDS WHY breeding these animals is wrong.

If he rescues a couple of underweight or sick geckos...this does NOT make them ineligible breeders BTW...the cause for this would be incorrect husbandry and if he corrects it...and gets them back to full health...what is wrong with breeding them?

Some of the most beautiful baby geckos I have seen were from a rescued female that should have been dead...how it survived I will never understand...but through patience and a lot of hand feeding from the person that rescued her she regained her full health and was a VERY good breeder. Beautiful, HEALTHY babies.

Give Dan some positive role models instead of a bunch of doting, whining examples of self righteous people.

I was in a PETCO one day about a month ago...I saw a leo moving around...UNDERNEATH the aquarium shelves.

I pointed it out to one of the employees and their response was "Yeah...they get out all the time" I said "Shouldn't you catch it?" They said "No...too much of a pain...we'll get more in next week."

I also saw a green anole loose the same day.

Rescue or theft?
Technically theft...but they made it clear to me that these animals are left to roam and die.

I read a post recently that someone I know wrote. They said they were at Petco looking at snakes...and realized one of the Cali Kings was actually on the OUTSIDE of the tank...
The store had repaired a hole with DUCT TAPE which was falling off. He caught it...and took it to a salesperson...who immediately retreated from him. Not a single person in the store would take the snake and put it back. They actually opened the tank and had HIM put it back. Their response was "Yeah...it keeps getting out...don't know why...but none of US is going to catch it...one of the night guys does THAT"

Some responsibility.

I am DEFINITELY not defending theft...going into a store and intentionally removing animals from their enclosure is wrong.

Rescuing animals left to die is entirely another issue.
Still punishable by law...but sometimes morality doesn't follow the written law.

It's not about a moral majority, it's about right and wrong. Some folks here will speak up on it, others won't, but we all have some strong feelings about it. Especially those who have or currently do own retail establishments.

If you find a loose animal in a shop and catch it, it still doesn't belong to you. Going to a pet shop is not the same as field collecting.

As more evidence of dan's true character is coming forth he is looking like a not so clean cut kid.

Rehabbing a sick animal and breeding it when it's fine is NO problem. Intentionally using subpar animals as your breeding stock IS a problem.

dan, change now or your reputation will follow you forever. You don't want to be a wendy.

I agree with most of those comments...
I enjoy playing the devil's advocate.

But seriously...even if the kid has some problems...as most teenagers do...GUIDE him in the right direction...don't beat him into the ground. Show him the error of his ways instead of persecuting him for errors in judgment that can be attributed to excitable, irrational youth.

Give the kid a break...

I won't do business with him unless I hear his ways have changed...and I would assume none of you would either.

But you people have so much passion for reptiles (as do I) and their care and breeding...take this kid under your wing and help him figure it out instead of pushing him into that group of irresponsible lowlifes that ruin the reptile industry.

With all the knowledge accumulated on this forum...we have the ability to change alot of these mistakes within the industry...all it takes is everyone working toward a greater good instead of bickering amongst themselves.

With your GUIDANCE he could be a great herper...instead of a Wendy.

With your negativistic onslaught...he may have no choice but to BE a Wendy...if he doesn't give up completely.

You definitely catch more flys with honey than vinegar.

Personally, I'm not so into flies as some of you seem to be. You all go right on and catch just as many as you like though, whatever your method.

dan now needs to prove himself. Time will allow him to do this.

Of coarse it was a good guy post, he refunded for animals he sold, took some time to do it and for animals that he did not have at the time he sold them

Heck if I had given Dan a different dragon (the hypo female breeder) as a replacement that he wanted this would never have happened, it would have been a good guy post too

The last line of the above says it all.

Had you shipped a healthy dragon THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A GOOD GUY POST.

You DID NOT ship a healthy dragon.

This IS NOT a good guy post because you DID NOT ship a healthy Dragon.

Do you understand NOW?

LOL

Come on...I wanted to give the woman SOME credit...

Much more fun to tear her down if she is encouraged to respond.

(Maybe it wasn't very fair of me to bait the handicapped?)

My issue with using animals that at one point were malnourished, is that, especially if this period of improper care occured during stages of growth, there could be underlying health problems.

And certainly with the gecko that has an underbite and has had it since birth, I challenge you to say without a shadow of a doubt that it is not genetic and that there cannot be any underlying health issues that may be genetic or developmental.

Now just like Dan knowingly purchased a female gecko with an underbite from a 'friend' to use as breeding stock, Dan also knowingly traded for a Bearded Dragon that was underweight and uindersize to use as a breeder.

Get it?

Is it clear now why I was trying to drill Dan's responsibility in this deal into you guys? I did not feel it necessary, the facts of this one situation spoke volumes about Dan. Unfortunately it was overshadowed by Wendy's inept handling of her own side.

Now you have many more details to judge Dan's character.

As I said before, Dan is well on his way to becoming just another unethical breeder.
