what is a het?
This will be at best a difficult page,Many times durring each day we are asked to explain ,"What is a het"?.Simply put, a "het"is a animal which carries a gene for a characteristic or trait, such as being a albino.A animal whic carries one or more of these traits, that cannot be outwardly seen, is a het. We break these hidden traits down to a couple basic types,
1) co dominant, This means only one of the parents will need to carry the gene ,for that trait to be present in the offspring.Ball pythons such as the Spider, pastel, and yellow bellies are good examples of this.
2) Simple recesive, This is just simply BOTH PARENTS must carry the gene to be able to visualy see it in the offspring. Examples of this are pied, albino, axanthic etc in ball pythons.
There are different "levels" or percentages of Hets,
100% means it deffinatly carries the gene, this animal is usualy the result of a breeding between a Visual genetic trait ,and a normal or 100% het.
50% this is a breeding between usualy a 100% het and a normal.ONLY 50 % OF THE OFFSPRING WILL CARRY THE GENE ! so a 50 % het means you have a 50/50 chance of your animal carring the gene.(a risk at best)
66% means the animal came from a 100% het bred to a 100% het,any of the babies that are not visably showing the trait ,have a 66% possibility of carring the trait.(another risk)
and yes there are 33s and even 25 % hets available, but your liklyhood of producing visuals is VERY remote !
Please be aware, you do get what you pay for..a 100% may cost $1000 plus (just a example) while a 50% may just be $150,but the likelyhood of you producing visuals is slim. And after all,if your breeding hets , you are in it to produce visuals, otherwise you would have purchased normals !
Check the guarantee when buying, call and talk to the sellers, ask , ask, ask, then ask some more.DONT BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ ! yes There are good deals out there...and jelousy and hatred run deep among some competing dealers. Get a plan together, ask questions, follow your plan.THERE IS MONEY TO BE MADE OUT THERE,AND NEW VISUAL GENETIC MORPHS ARE APEARING EVERY DAY !

Unless the origin of one or both of the parents is from HCE.2) Simple recesive, This is just simply BOTH PARENTS must carry the gene to be able to visualy see it in the offspring. Examples of this are pied, albino, axanthic etc in ball pythons.
Have they ever own one?100% means it deffinatly carries the gene, this animal is usualy the result of a breeding between a Visual genetic trait ,and a normal or 100% het.
But we know already which is the greatest risk of all!50% this is a breeding between usualy a 100% het and a normal.ONLY 50 % OF THE OFFSPRING WILL CARRY THE GENE ! so a 50 % het means you have a 50/50 chance of your animal carring the gene.(a risk at best)
66% means the animal came from a 100% het bred to a 100% het,any of the babies that are not visably showing the trait ,have a 66% possibility of carring the trait.(another risk)
Likelihood slim to none either way. Please be aware, you do get what you pay for..a 100% may cost $1000 plus (just a example) while a 50% may just be $150,but the likelyhood of you producing visuals is slim.
Bingo! And after all,if your breeding hets , you are in it to produce visuals, otherwise you would have purchased normals !
I’m pretty sure the Davis’, Barkers’, and Kahls’ of the world are extremely jealous.Check the guarantee when buying, call and talk to the sellers, ask , ask, ask, then ask some more.DONT BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ ! yes There are good deals out there...and jelousy and hatred run deep among some competing dealers.
Of course there is! We wonder whose after it?THERE IS MONEY TO BE MADE OUT THERE,
And you need to own one yet! The same picture of the same pied been shown over and over again is getting old.AND NEW VISUAL GENETIC MORPHS ARE APEARING EVERY DAY
